Raul is a small vertical-boilered Brazilian tank engine, who took part in the Great Railway Show. He competed in the shunting challenge.

Television SeriesEdit

Raul was invited to take part in the Great Railway Show, and he and the other eleven engines who would be competing in the events travelled to the Mainland by ship. However, the ship made a stop at Sodor by mistake, and Raul ordered the engines to back up onto the ship again.

Once when he arrived at the Mainland, Raul competed in the shunting challenge alongside Ashima, Thomas, Gina and Ivan. However, he ended up losing the race to Ashima. After the Great Railway Show ended, Raul left the Mainland and returned to Brazil. (TVS; The Great Race)

Personality and TraitsEdit

Not much is known about Raul; however, many descriptions of him describe him as being a feisty, strong and agile little tank engine who may look similar to a diesel engine, and that his strength and agility make him the perfect contender in the shunting challenge.

Technical DetailsEdit

Raul is based on the Sentinel No. 8398, which is currently numbered 166 on the São Paulo Railway. This vertical-boilered tank engine is still in use at the Amsted-Maxion Wagon Works in Cruzerio, Brazil, and is one of the last broad gauge steam engines to still be in working service. Raul shares his number with No. 166, but is scaled down from 5'3" (broad gauge) to 4'8½" (standard gauge), and is given buffers and screwlink couplings so that he can work on British railways.

Raul is painted in the colours of the Brazilian flag: yellow, green, blue and white. He is painted yellow and blue with a green line running across him, and his engine doors are painted green. The sides of his running board and his bufferbeam are painted in black and yellow hazard stripes, and his buffers are silver. His number, 166, is painted in white lettering on a blue rhombus, and his wheels are painted blue with white rims.

  • In the promotional video for Raul, his stats incorrectly state that he is based on the Two-Engined Sentinel 7109. This is the engine that Logan received his number from.
